How much should I save for a concert or big event?
Tickets + travel + stay + merch + food

What does a concert in India actually cost?
Let’s break it down honestly — because the ticket price is just the start.
Tickets are the biggest variable. Standing/festival floor tickets for mid-tier artists start around ₹3,000–₹6,000. Top-tier international acts (think stadium shows in Mumbai or Delhi) can run ₹8,000–₹20,000 for a decent section, and VIP/premium zones go higher. The 2024–25 concert calendar — Coldplay, Dua Lipa, Lollapalooza India — showed that demand for premium sections is intense enough to hit sold-out within hours, so price is rarely the ceiling; availability is.
Travel and accommodation are the second-largest cost and the most commonly underestimated. If the show is in another city, a return flight or train ticket, one or two hotel nights, and airport/station transport can easily add ₹4,000–₹8,000 per person — more if you’re traveling from a tier-2 city to Mumbai or Delhi.
Food and drinks at venue prices in India run 3–5x what you’d pay outside. Budget ₹800–₹2,000 for the evening inside the venue, depending on whether you eat before or after.
Merch is optional but easy to underestimate. Official lightsticks (essential at K-pop shows) run ₹2,500–₹4,000. A basic tee is ₹1,500–₹2,500. Many fans report spending as much on merch as on the ticket itself. The calculator above lets you add these individually to see the real number.
The “save first” vs. “splurge now” trade-off
The most common mistake isn’t failing to save — it’s starting too late and then scrambling. When you’re three weeks from the show with only half the budget, you have two choices: borrow or cut something else. Both are worse than the alternative of saving ₹2,500/month for six months.
Here’s a useful frame: a concert is a fixed-date goal — unlike a vacation, you can’t push it by two months because you didn’t save enough. That makes the runway even more important. The calculator’s readiness percentage tells you whether your current monthly saving pace gets you to full funding before the concert date.
What if I’m not there yet?
The swaps section shows the gap in everyday units — how many café orders or Swiggy dinners separate you from concert-ready. This isn’t guilt; it’s arithmetic. Knowing that the shortfall equals 14 café visits over 6 months makes it concrete. You decide whether the trade-off is worth it.
If the required monthly amount feels out of reach, try two things: extend the target timeline (if the show allows) or reduce the add-ons — skipping the extra hotel night or the lightstick changes the math significantly.
A note on illustrative numbers
This calculator uses simple arithmetic — current savings, monthly additions, and a target. It does not invest your money or project market returns. Any “investing instead” suggestions in the swaps strip are for illustrative purposes only and are not product recommendations.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a concert cost in India in 2025–26?
Standing tickets typically run ₹4,000–₹12,000; premium zones and VIP are higher. Add travel, stay, food, and merch and a realistic all-in budget is ₹8,000–₹25,000 depending on the city, artist, and category you book.
How early should I start saving for a concert?
Tour announcements usually drop 3–6 months before the show date. Starting the day the tour is announced gives you the longest runway and the smallest monthly saving amount. If you're reading this after the announcement, start today — even partial funding reduces what you need to arrange last-minute.
